Nutrition Education addresses food insecurity and hunger by using USDA materials and guidelines to achieve nutritional goals. Healthy nutrition habits are discussed to promote health and reduce risk of chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Veterans who develop skills in nutrition, cooking, food budgeting, and food safety, are better able to provide nutritious food for themselves and after transitioning. Nutrition Education covers topics such as eating healthy on a budget, healthy cooking options, and exercise to improve health and move toward more secure living.
Resources are distributed for healthier food choices, disease prevention, and the impact of food on various health conditions. Nutrition education helps to build capacities for Veterans to recognize poor food choices and resist them.
